Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best warehouse storage system for my type of inventory?
It depends on what you store, how much of it, and how quickly it moves. High-SKU operations that need direct access to every pallet often suit Selective Racking, while high-density, low-SKU inventory may be better served by Pushback Racking, Pallet Flow Racking, or Drive In Racking. Long or awkward items like lumber and pipe typically call for Cantilever Racking. NAS Group's design and engineering team reviews your goods, volumes, and workflow to recommend the right fit.
How can I add more storage space to my warehouse without moving to a bigger building?
The most effective approach is usually to build up or tighten your layout. Structural Mezzanines add usable floor space above your existing footprint, while Selective Racking can be configured with narrower aisles to fit more pallet positions in the same area. High-density systems like Pushback Racking and Drive In Racking can also reduce the number of aisles needed. NAS Group's in-house engineers can design a custom layout that makes use of every inch, including vertical space.
Which racking system works best for FIFO or LIFO inventory management?
For FIFO (first-in, first-out), Pallet Flow Racking and Carton Flow Racking use gravity-fed lanes so the oldest stock is always picked first, which is ideal for perishables and date-sensitive goods. For LIFO (last-in, first-out), Pushback Racking and Drive In Racking store pallets deep and retrieve the most recently loaded ones first, which works well for bulk or seasonal inventory.
Does my forklift or AGV setup affect what warehouse racking I should choose?
Yes. Your handling equipment determines aisle widths, lift heights, and load access, all of which shape the racking design. Selective Racking can be configured with aisle widths to suit anything from standard counterbalance forklifts to reach trucks and specialized narrow-aisle equipment. If you use or plan to add automated guided vehicles (AGVs), NAS Group can design the system around that equipment from the start.
Which racking companies in Canada handle everything from design to installation?
NAS Group provides end-to-end service for warehouse storage projects. As a Canadian manufacturer, it handles engineering and rack design, manufacturing, project management, rack installation, and inspections in-house. That gives you one point of contact for the full lifecycle of your system, with R-Mark certified racking built to scale as your business grows.
